Sailing impresses at UCSD Open
SAN DIEGO – The Cal Maritime sailing team turned heads on Mission Bay at this weekend's UCSD Open.
Through light and shifty winds, the Keelhauler varsity boats placed third and eighth, and the JV squad finished runner-up in the competitions that featured 26 teams.
The result is Cal Maritime's third top-3 finish in four races this season. The Keelhaulers beat 10 NCAA Division I teams in the process.
"Our team showed great consistency throughout the weekend despite the unpredictable wind," said varsity skipper Kyle Collins. "We are looking forward to continuing to work hard and practice to tighten up our boat handling, boat speed, and tactics to keep improving our results. I have never been a part of a team that is so motivated to succeed, and it has been fantastic."
