Sailing secures top-three finish at PCCSC South Designate

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Cal Maritime's B Division squad recorded second place in four out of 10 races that took place throughout the two-day Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference South Designate, hosted by USC at the US Sailing Center in Long Beach, California, and its A team finished fifth or better in five races in a field of 24 teams.

By virtue of their combined scores, the Keelhaulers (105 points) finished third, trailing only Stanford (57) and a Hawai'i (42) program that saw squads in each division post 10 first-place results combined out of 20 races to win the regatta.

Those same three teams ended Saturday's action in the top three; its order remained unchanged throughout Sunday's competition.

UCLA (110) and Southern California (117) round out the event's top five.

Combined division scores for each participating school comprised the overall results among the 24 participants.

The PCCSC South Designate marked the Keelhaulers' second visit to the US Sailing Center this season as they finished sixth in the Rose Bowl Regatta, also hosted by USC, in the team's inaugural competition of the 2022 calendar year.

After competing in Southern California in each of the last two weekends, Cal Maritime Sailing will now enjoy a week off before returning to action on April 2 when the program hosts the PCCSC North Regatta at the Campus Waterfront/Boat Basin for a two-day regatta.

All teams competed on Club/Collegiate Flying Juniors.
