2023 Harbor Cup Selection Criteria

Three automatic invites are given to the following:

Previous year's Harbor Cup winner
Kennedy Cup winner (of the regatta taking place on Nov. 5-6, 2022, four months before the Harbor Cup)
Cal Maritime Academy

If there are repeat qualifications, an invite is presented to the second-place team. This leaves seven open berths, awarded through this process:

Three East Coast/Great Lakes teams (north and east): two traditional, one developing
Three West Coast/Gulf Coast teams (south and west): two traditional, one developing
One international team

Preference will be given to teams that meet the following criteria:

Historical participation in qualifying offshore events
Demonstrated participation in collegiate keelboat ladder events (CGA J70 events, Maine Maritime Colgate invites, COC PHRF events, etc)
Designated professional coach employed by the school. (part- or full-time, not a volunteer)
Teams with regular and confirmed access to a keelboat for training
