VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime's dinghy team will head to the opposite half of the state for its next regatta, slated for this weekend in Long Beach, California, when it joins other Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference institutions at the South Designate, hosted by USC at the US Sailing Center.
Participants will compete in Club/Collegiate Flying Juniors throughout this two-day event. First warning for Saturday's races is set for 11:30 a.m.; Sunday's first warning will take place at 11 a.m. with no races starting after 3 p.m. that day.
This is a two-division competition (A & B) involving PCCSC schools looking to qualify for the PCCSC's Dinghy PCCs. Each school is limited to one four-member crew, races from both days are combined for a final team score in this event.
Racing is slated for the outer harbor, but inside the breakwater; race officials can designate an alternate course based on weather conditions each day.
Once Cal Maritime returns home from Long Beach, it will enjoy a five-day period to prep for its next regatta, the Keelhauler Open. This competition, hosted by CSUM, will take place on April 1 and 2 at Morrow Cove; spectators can line up anywhere along the waterfront to view next weekend's races.
