VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime will host its annual dinghy regatta, the Keelhauler Open, during a busy portion of its spring schedule that includes five events in as many weeks. Teams will race at Morrow Cove throughout this two-day competition, fans can watch the action for free anywhere on the Waterfront.
Sailing fans need to purchase a day-long parking pass at any yellow kiosk, a campus map, additional parking information and operating hours for The Marketplace (concessions and restrooms, in addition to various food trucks that are on site throughout the weekend) are available by clicking respective links.
Please note that fans/visitors are not allowed to park inside the secure boat basin area.
Only one team per school is allowed, entries are limited to 13 teams. If the 13 available spots are not filled, schools may send a second team with the host having priority. All entrants must meet ICSA eligibility requirements. Participants will sail FJs.
The Keelhauler Open is a two-division regatta, divisions will rotate every two races with teams remaining in their initially assigned boat throughout the event.
Cal Maritime will host its lone on-campus regatta of the season one week after finishing fifth within a field of 13 teams that participated in the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference South Designate, hosted by USC in Long Beach, California. That weekend, the Keelhaulers secured top-three finishes in nine of 24 combined races that took place in two divisions, including second place on four occasions.
The Keelhauler Open provides CSUM the luxury of minimal travel since this regatta will take place in home water. Following the weekend, sailing will drive to Redwood City for next weekend's PCCSC Team Race Championship, followed by the Rainier Cup on April 15 and 16 — a regatta the Keelhaulers won last season — and the season-ending PCCSC Mark Healy Open Fleet Race Championship (April 22-23).
