Keelhaulers remain local for PCCSC Open Team Championship

VALLEJO, Calif. – A portion of Cal Maritime's schedule that includes five regattas in as many weeks continues in Redwood City this weekend at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference Open Team Championship. Including the Keelhaulers and Stanford, the event's host, Cal, Cal Poly, Hawai'i, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UCLA and Western Washington will visit the Arrillaga Family Rowing and Sailing Center for this two-day regatta.

Report time for Saturday's racing is 10:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Each team will sail three boats in each race, this regatta will use a preliminary double round robin format, followed by a double round of the top four teams from the preliminary round. Teams will qualify for subsequent rounds based on the cumulative number of wins earned each round. Teams that do not qualify will secure an overall finish for this regatta based on the win total from their last round sailed.

However, if weather and/or time does not allow a preliminary double round robin to take place, a single round robin is the format race officials will use, followed by a double round of the top four teams from preliminary racing.

Based on this weekend's forecast — the race committee has the option to seed teams from top to bottom to create two groups. Each group would sail its own round robin, with the top two teams from each division comprising the group of finalists that will compete for the championship.

Teams will sail 2021 LP Collegiate FJs and 2023 Zim 420Es throughout the weekend.

Once racing concludes, Cal Maritime's final regattas of the season will take place at the Rainier Cup in Portland (April 15-16) and in Honolulu at the PCCSC Mark Healy Open Fleet Race Championship (April 22-23).
