Offshore sailing heads to Annapolis for season’s inaugural regatta

VALLEJO, Calif. – Offshore sailing will head across the country for its first regatta of the 2023-24 season when it heads to Annapolis, Maryland, to compete in the Shields Trophy.
This regatta will take place at Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River, racing will take place on Saturday, September 30, and Sunday, October 1.
First warning on Saturday is set for 12 p.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The event's last race will not start after 2 p.m.; an awards presentation will begin at 4 p.m.
Service and Maritime Academy teams, in addition to a select group of non-academy teams, will compete on Navy 44 MK2s. Crews are limited to eight individuals and two alternates; representing Cal Maritime this weekend are Charlie Bedford, Ryan Downey, Cyrus Khaleeli, Django Knafo-Tomlinson, Ben Louttit, Clay Myers, Etienne Quille, Max Roth and Conner Skewes.
Not only is this the inaugural offshore meet of the season, the Shields Cup provides the perfect opportunity for the Keelhaulers to prep for its next offshore regatta, the Kennedy Cup, slated for the first weekend of November at the same location (also hosted by Navy).
