VALLEJO, Calif. – Last weekend in Annapolis, Maryland, Cal Maritime's sailing program added the Shields Trophy to its awards case after winning the inaugural offshore event of the season. A shorter road trip is in store for the Keelhaulers this weekend when it returns to dinghy competition at the Stoney Burke Regatta, hosted by Cal at the Treasure Island Sailing Center in San Francisco.

Each Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference institution has the option to participate in as many as three regattas throughout the weekend; each school is allowed one co-ed varsity team, one women's varsity team and an unlimited number of JV teams.

Cal Maritime's designated teams for respective races were not set at the time of this announcement.

At last year's Stoney Burke Regatta, CSUM's co-ed varsity team finished third with its JV teams capturing first and second place.

Report time for this two-day-long regatta is 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday with first start slated for 11 a.m. each morning. Participants will race PCCSC-legal FJs to be provided by each team with each squad providing their own PCCSC legal FJ sails.

This is the first race to involve multiple dinghy sailing cadet-athletes since freshman Nick Mueller represented CSUM in the inaugural regatta of the 2023-24 season at the PCCSC Singlehanded Championship.

In that event, which took place in Seattle two weeks ago, Mueller finished third.

The Stoney Burke Regatta is the first of a string of dinghy competitions taking place throughout the month of October: Cadet-athletes will compete in five dinghy regattas in as many weeks, starting with PCCSC Match Race Championship, (Oct. 14-15), UCSD Open (Oct. 21-22), PCCSC Women's Championship and Top Nine Invitational (Oct. 28-29).

When November rolls around, CSUM will wrap-up this busy block of competition at the PCCSC Fall Championship before enjoying a well-deserved break.
