VALLEJO, Calif. –
Off since November 20 after returning from the PCCSC Fall Dinghy Championship the previous day, Cal Maritime will return to competition in Long Beach, California, in the inaugural race of the new calendar year, the Rose Bowl Regatta.

Representing Cal Maritime this weekend are sophomores Logan Chapman, Ben Louttit, freshmen Sam Jennings and Nick Mueller

Since high school teams are competing in a separate division, throughout this event, the Keelhaulers' quartet will serve as university ambassadors for prospective cadet-athletes who are interested in joining the sailing program. At a special dinner organized for high school student-athletes and their parents/guardians, Louttit will speak on behalf of CSUM, and its sailing program, throughout this event.

Since classes do not start until Monday, this is a busy weekend for all four cadet-athletes since they will hit the road ASAP once this regatta concludes to ensure everyone returns to campus at a respectable time Sunday night.

Even though Cal Maritime is not required to participate, all four cadet-athletes chose to compete due to their love of the sport, the phenomenal opportunity provided by Rose Bowl Regatta officials during Saturday's dinner and prospective college student-athlete session, and the opportunity to race at one of the premier locations on the West Coast.

Off last year to prepare for its Transpac appearance by competing in a handful of offshore events, Cal Maritime last competed at the Rose Bowl Regatta in 2022. By finishing sixth, the Keelhaulers matched their 2019 finish — the program's best finish in the regatta's recorded history.

Hosted by USC, one team (A & B), from each ICSA member school has the ability to submit registration and a commitment to compete; a target total of 30 is predicted for this regatta.

In a competition that will surely feature numerous Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference members, institutions will sail CFJs throughout this weekend-long event that will use a round-robin format.

Racing will begin at 11 a.m. each morning; no races will commence after 3 p.m. on Sunday.

This year's course will take place in Long Beach Harbor, located approximately one mile south of Belmont Memorial Pier. Spectators can claim their space from the beach adjacent to the Granada Launch Ramp, located on Ocean Boulevard at the end of Granada Avenue.

A dinner and college sailing panel will take place Saturday night, at 5 p.m. for prospective sailing student-athletes, and their families to learn about the sport itself, at the collegiate level, and various institutions with sponsored programs.

Specific information about this panel is available on site throughout Saturday's slate of races.
