VALLEJO, Calif. – Eight-time champion Cal Maritime will head to San Pedro, California, to battle for its third title within the last four years of racing at the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup, tri-hosted by the Port of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Yacht Club and CSUM.

Since a live results link was not available at the time of this release, sailing fans are encouraged to visit 2024 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup Central throughout the days leading up to this annual event, or view sailing's schedule on GoKeelhaulers.com.

At last season's regatta, Hawai'i thwarted Cal Maritime's three-peat bid by winning the Harbor Cup for the first time in program history. In addition to the defending champions and the Keelhaulers, as one of the regatta's hosts, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy earned the other automatic Harbor Cup berth by winning last November's Kennedy Cup.

The Harbor Cup is the only intercollegiate offshore keelboat regatta on the West Coast and one of the sport's three premier events  — the Kennedy Cup and Shields Cup, both hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Maryland, are the other two

Also making the trek to Southern California for this three-day, 10-race competition are previous Harbor Cup winners College of Charleston, Maine Maritime Academy, U.S. Naval Academy and USC. UC San Diego will make its debut at this year's event; completing this year's list of competitors are Cal Poly and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

These 10 teams will test the challenging waters of the Pacific at Pt. Fermin, located next to the Los Angeles Yacht Club, aboard a fleet of identical Catalina 37s – the same one-design keelboats utilized in the prestigious Congressional Cup regatta.

Point Fermin Park on Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro, and Cabrillo Beach provide excellent viewing locations for spectators.

Since its inaugural race in 2008, 154 teams and over 1,300 student-athletes competed in the Harbor Cup.

Participating teams are selected from a large pool of applicants each year; invitees are fully hosted by Los Angeles Yacht Club members with housing and meals provided for all student-athletes and coaches.

This year's regatta also includes a Saturday night dinner for participating teams, LAYC members and VIPs featuring yacht racing legend Roy P. Disney as its keynote speaker.

The owner and skipper of Pyewacket is a lifelong offshore sailor responsible for numerous record-breaking voyages.
