REDWOOD CITY, Calif. –
Clutch performances by Cal Maritime in Redwood City this past weekend helped it edge San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara and USC for third at the PCCSC Carter Ford Open Team Race Championship, hosted by Stanford at the Arrillaga Family Rowing and Sailing Center.

Representing the Keelhaulers were the pairings of Nick Mueller and Oscar Perry, Clay Myers and Owen Cuyler, Ryan Downey and Nicolai Perez.

By winning its last two races, Cal Maritime earned its spot on the podium and sent off its graduating seniors, Downey and Myers, with a storybook ending to their careers.

Combined, CSUM's boats won 10 of 19 races, a record that placed them behind only Hawai'i and it 13-6 record and regatta champion Stanford who won all 19 races.

In Round 1, the Keelhaulers defeated Cal, San Diego State, Cal Poly, UC Santa Cruz and Washington to place themselves in the top six, preserving their shot at winning the event in the process.

Latter rounds of sailing saw Cal Maritime defeat San Diego State again and Southern California, followed by a Top Six Second Round that included victories versus Hawai'i, UC Santa Barbara and another win against USC.

By following its 2-3 opening Top Six round record with a 3-2 mark, CSUM's diligent and consistent sailing paid off with a top-three overall result.

Dinghy sailors will carry momentum from its strong finish at the Open Team Race Championship with them for its final competition of the 2024-25 season when it visits Treasure Island Sailing Center in San Francisco for the PCCSC Dinghy Championship, hosted by Cal on April 19-20.
