Cal Maritime Women Stay Perfect in Conference
The Keelhaulers of Cal Maritime and the Oaks of Menlo College squared off on Saturday in a battle of unbeatens in Cal Pac play. Cal Maritime jumped out to a 12 to 2 advantage behind a stellar team defensive effort. The Oaks would go on a run of their own in the first and cut the lead to 5 at the half (28 to 23). Menlo College would tie the game at 32 early in the second half. Fortunately, Cal Maritime had a run of their own in them as the Keelhaulers would go on an 18-1 run behind the sharp shooting of Sabrina Domingo and the relentless attacks of Alexsis Brown to take a 50- 33 lead. Menlo would not quit and fought back to within three. However, Cal Maritime would hit their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the victory 61-55.
The Keelhaulers were lead by Sabrina Domingo's 23 points with 5 of her field goals coming from behind the arc. Alexsis Brown had another solid night with her seventh double double of the year with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Kristina Shiheiber and Quaraya Fuston were also instrumental in leading the team on the defensive end both in the post and on the perimeter. Shiheiber pulled down 7 boards over the much taller Oaks.
With the win, the Keelhaulers stay perfect in conference play with a 5-0 record. Cal Maritime stands alone in first place for the first time in school history. The Keelhaulers step out of conference for their next match-up as they take on the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz on Thursday at home. Tip is set for 7pm. Come out and support your Keelhaulers!
