Mike Warrington Takes the Helm

Vallejo, CA -California Maritime Academy's Athletic Director Marv Christopher has announced that Mike Warrington has been selected as the head women's basketball coach and will serve as the second women's basketball coach in the program's history. Although it is his first year with the women's program, Coach Warrington is no stranger to Cal Maritime. He makes the move from the men's basketball program where he most recently served as the associate head coach.
Marv Christopher commented on the hiring, "Cal Maritime is very fortunate to have hired Coach Warrington with his wealth of experience and coaching knowledge. He has been a great addition to the men's program and will provide the women's program with necessary stability to move the program to great heights."
With Coach Warrington's assistance, Cal Maritime's men's team enjoyed the best four year run in school history by winning three conference championships and earning consecutive trips to the NAIA National Tournament. Warrington was instrumental in all areas of the program including recruiting, scouting, and player development. His efforts helped lead to over twelve Keehaulers being named to All Conference teams and several Academic All Americans. Coach Warrington was also 2-0 as acting head coach including a victory over eventual National Champion Oregon Tech.
Prior to coming to Cal Maritime,Coach Warrington spent the 2008-2009 season as an assistant coach under the tutelage of Bill Treseler at San Francisco State. With Warrington's assistance the Gators set a record for consecutive wins to start the season as they raced to a 7-0 start.
Coach Warrington was also the Head Boys' Varsity Basketball Coach at Napa High School from 2002-08. From 1994 to 2000 Warrington served as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Fountain Valley High School in Orange County and prior to that he was the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach at Porterville College (1992-94).
"To be named the head women's basketball coach at such an outstanding learning institution like Cal Maritime is a great honor. I'm really excited for the opportunity to coach the women in the upcoming season! I look forward to the opportunity of creating something special under the fantastic Athletic Department leadership of Marv Christopher, Bryan Rooney and Pat Hollister," explained Coach Warrington.
Coach Warrington played college basketball at College of Marin and Napa Valley College. At College of Marin he was named the best defensive player on a Bay-Valley Conference Championship and State Championship runner-up team in 1983. In 1984 at Napa Valley College he was named the team's MVP.
He attended California State University, Chico, graduating in 1988 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He received his Master's Degree in Kinesiology from Saint Mary's College in 2007 and has his Teaching Credential from National University in San Diego. In 2004 he was inducted into the Napa High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a shortstop in baseball and as a point guard in basketball. Since 2001 he has been teaching Social Studies at his alma mater Napa High School.
