Lady Keelhaulers Get Defensive in Win over Bobcats

The Cal Maritime women's basketball team rode a great defensive effort in the first half as they opened up a 12 point half time lead. They held on to defeat UC Merced 66-59. The Keelhaulers held the Bobcats to 27% shooting in the first half and followed that up with great defense for the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

Maritime was led in scoring by Toni Anaya with a season high 14 points to go along with a team high 9 rebounds and Shante Sands added 13 points.

Cal Maritime led by as many as 20 points in the second half until Merced fought back on a series of 3 point baskets in the last five minutes to close the gap. Karissa Booker and Julia Tani led the defensive effort.

Cal Maritime improves their record to 3-6 in the Cal-Pac and 10-13 overall. They host Cal Pac leader Menlo College on Senior Night which is this Saturday on the CMA campus. Game time is set for 5:30pm.
