Keelhauer Defense Dominates Golden Eagles
The Cal Maritime women's basketball team beat La Sierra of Riverside by a score of 63-45 Saturday night. The win keeps CMA in a first place tie with Menlo College at 3-0 in Cal Pac play.
The lady Keelhaulers relied on their defense to dominate the Golden Eagles. In the first half CMA held La Sierra to just five field goals on 20% shooting and forced eleven turnovers to take a commanding 41-17 lead at the break.
The defensive effort was led by Kaylor Kovacevich who held the CalPac's leading scorer Tina Fantroy 7 points below her average on just 3/12 shooting. Karissa Booker and Jen Keys also played solid defense for the Keelhaulers.
Joie Camalo had an excellent game with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists. Along with her stellar defense Kovacevich added 11 points while Toni Anaya had six boards. Scoring 9 points on 4/4 shooting was Jordan Mootz who came off the bench to add an offensive spark for CMA.
Cal Maritime who is now 9-6 overall will next play Pacific Union on Thursday night at 5:30pm.
