Floor General Joins the Keelhauler Basketball Family

California Maritime Academy's Head Women's Basketball Coach Tony Jones has announced his first commitment for the 2015-2016 season with the signing of Luisa Delos Reyes.

Delos Reyes comes to the Keelhaulers from Laney College, where former Keelhauler standouts Shante Sands and Javier Brantley also attended. Luisa will be counted on carry on the tradition. Delos Reyes joins the Keelhaulers after a solid junior college career. As a sophomore starter, she led the Laney Eagles to the second round of the CCCAA Women's Basketball Northern Region Playoff's while averaging 10.5 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals per game. Delos Reyes earned All-Conference Honors competing in the Bay Valley Conference. Delos Reyes was also a 4-year starter at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo where she finished her career there as one of the top three scorers in Arroyo High School history. Luisa will be majoring in Global Studies.

"We are extremely excited to have Luisa join the Keelhauler family! We believe that her leadership and scoring abilities can add a different dimension to our basketball team. Her abilities to see the floor, find the open person and score the ball are things that the women's basketball program has needed from the point guard position. Luisa brings a lot of talent and potential to the court as well as in the classroom. She is committed to excellence in both arenas and it should be no surprise to anyone the things she will accomplish at Maritime," responded Coach Jones when asked about Delos Reyes' commitment.

When asked about her decision to attend Cal Maritime, Delos Reyes replied, "I decided to come to Cal Maritime because of the good feeling I got when I first came to visit and watch the women's basketball team on senior night. I felt welcomed right away by not only the coaches but the players as well. I saw a lot of talent and potential in this team and at that point I couldn't imagine myself going anywhere else to play except Cal Maritime. Although basketball plays a big role as to why I chose Cal Maritime, it is also because of the education and great opportunities given here. A school where I'm given many opportunities for my future and I can play basketball-How can I not choose this school? "

Luisa Delos Reyes joins a Cal Maritime Women's Basketball Team that is fresh off of its most successful season in school history. The 2014-15 Keelhauler squad captured its first ever winning season in school history, a second place conference finish and finished just shy of qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament.

The new look Keelhaulers open their season on the road on October 30th against the Bethesda Flames.
