Daija Daniels Joins the Keelhaulers
The Keelhaulers Add Grit to the Basketball Family
Head Women's Basketball Head Coach, Tony Jones has announced the signing of Daija Daniels for the 2015-16 season.
Daniels joins the Keelhaulers after spending one season playing for Coach Vince Shaw at Napa Valley College. When asked about her reasons for choosing Maritime, Daniels commented, "The reason that I chose to come to Maritime was because of the incredible opportunities that are associated with graduating from this school. Opportunities such as the great career options, the international experience, and the connections you make being from here. I get a job, get to travel the world and I get to network with future industry leaders. My other reasons for choosing Maritime are the smaller class sizes for more personal attention, a chance to make lifelong friends, I get to have the full college experience of dorm living and I get to play basketball, the sport I love."
"Daija will bring some much needed depth and stability at the guard position. She is a quick defender and a very fast learner. As she continues to develop other aspects of her game, she will be a valuable piece of the Keelhauler puzzle this season. She will be called on to do many things for this team and I have complete confidence in her abilities to work and be a leader not only of this team but future teams as well," said Jones when asked about Daniels joining the Keelhaulers.
Daija Daniels joins a Cal Maritime Women's Basketball Team that is fresh off of its most successful season in school history. The 2014-15 Keelhauler squad captured its first ever winning season in school history, a second place conference finish and finished just shy of qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament.
The Keelhaulers start their competition on the road this season, opening against the Bethesda Flames on October 30th.
