Lady Keelhaulers Can't Sustain Momentum vs. Menlo

The Lady Keelhaulers went cold after a hot start and fall to Menlo 98-75

The Cal Maritime Women again reversed a negative trend in a game, but also reversed it on the positive side. After a rough start against Menlo in their first meeting and then righting the ship a bit the rest of the game, the Keelhaulers came out hot in the first quarter Friday night at the P.E. Center. The Lady Keelhaulers hit their threes and made some stops to break out to a 27-15 after the first quarter of play.

But the Menlo Oaks switched to a zone defense which left the Keelhaulers indecisive. Turnovers began to pile up and Cal Maritime lost the quarter 30-9. They came out flat in the second half which left them in too big of a hole to recover in a close fourth quarter.

Junior Samantha James again led the Keelhaulers in scoring with 20 points and in rebounds with five. Lilian Dawkins finished with 16 points going 2 for 5 from downtown. The Keelhaulers won the rebounding battle 34-32 against the mighty Oaks, but lost the turnover battle 26-18.

Menlo shot a whopping 11 of 18 from three point range to the Keelhaulers 8 for 21.

UP NEXT: The Lady Keelhaulers are off until December 9 when they take on conference foe UC Merced on the road. Their next home game isn't until December 30 against William Jessup University.
