First-Half Turnovers Doom Lady Keelhaulers
The Cal State Maritime Women's basketball team again had an early lead against one of the powerhouses of the Cal Pac Conference, but were unable to sustain their success.
Early turnovers plagued the Lady Keelhaulers (5-14, 0-5), which were often a product of miscommunication between players who cut when they should have stayed put or stayed put when the passer expected a move.
The usual sharp shooters for the Keelhaulers could not get shots to fall either, as Cal Maritime finished just 25% from the field and only 20% from three-point range.
Senior Nancy Clark of Calexico, Calif. did manage to finish with 12 points on the night, going 2 of 4 from downtown and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line.
Junior Samantha James of Fresno, Calif. pulled down 11 rebounds, and senior Alisia Spearman of Moreno Valley, Calif. scored eight points. Overall the Keelhaulers committed 29 turnovers to just 10 for the Pioneers.
