Women's Basketball defeats St. Katherine 64-33

Lady Keelhaulers handled business on Tuesday night leading from start to finish against the young Firebirds.

Cal Maritime (6-4) won all four quarters, dominating three of them, as St. Katherine put up a fight in the second quarter with the Keelhaulers only winning it by one point. The Lady Keelhaulers jumped out to a 17-5 lead after one quarter of play, and didn't allow a field goal by the Firebirds for the final 7:42 of the game.

Freshman Tal Webb scored in every quarter to finish with 15 points on the night, and Junior Valiceia Horne scored 10 points with four rebounds. Several other Keelhaulers contributed to back-up the two scorers in double figures, including Sophomore Kameron Taylor who had nine points and led the team with five assists. Senior Samantha James chipped in eight points as did Junior Tyra Fai'malo to go along with a team-leading seven rebounds.

Unfortunately the Keelhaulers still committed 21 turnovers, though the Firebirds had 24, and shot just 37% from the field on the night, both areas they'll look to correct before resuming conference play. But the Keelhaulers did keep St. Katherine to just 20% shooting in the contest and allowed them to only make two shots from beyond the three-point line. Cal Maritime also won the rebound battle 44-39 and showed improvement at the free-throw line by shooting 65% in the game.

UP NEXT: It's a quick turnaround for the Lady Keelhaulers as they continue on their Southern California swing before the holiday break. They'll visit Cal Miramar -- who they defeated 101-27 earlier this year -- for an exhibition contest that's scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19.
