Women's Basketball can't upset UC Merced

Cal Maritime fell to division rival UC Merced at home in a conference matchup Thursday night 65-44.

The Lady Keelhaulers held a lead with two minutes to go in the first quarter 11-10, keeping up and playing some solid defense against a Bobcat team who had won 9 straight heading into play Thursday night. The lead was short lived and the visiting Bobcats would never look back as they would go on a 20-7 run at the end of the first quarter and into the second quarter.

The Keelhaulers would shoot 32 percent from the field and in fact finished neck and neck stat wise with the Bobcats. However, turnovers haunted the Lady Keelhaulers as they had 18 compared to the Bobcat 11.

Tal Webb lead the team with 12 points with Samantha James right behind her with 10 points. Juniors Tyra Fai'malo and Kiara Warren had eight rebounds a piece.

The Keelhaulers 6-8 (0-4) will look to end their four game skid on the road in another conference matchup between Pacific Union College 1-15 (0-4) on Saturday, January 12th.
