VALLEJO, Calif. – Off since November 19 when it returned home from UC Santa Cruz, the last of its three-game road trip, Cal Maritime will face a unique situation when it hosts the Keelhauler Classic — the program's final set of home games in 2021.

Leading up to this weekend's schedule, women's basketball's home opener vs. Menlo, which took place on November 10 was the only game that took place on the Keelhaulers' court. By comparison, they will play more games inside PEAC Main Gym this weekend than the entire season (so far) combined.

This weekend-long event starts Friday at 3 p.m. with a neutral-site matchup between UC Merced and Oregon Tech; the Bobcats are the designated home team.

On Saturday, the Owls will compete in its second game in as many days when they square off against the Keelhaulers in their final game of the weekend. Tipoff for Cal Maritime's tournament opener is set for 1 p.m.

Just over 24 hours later, women's basketball's weekend will conclude with a 5 p.m. matchup vs. Southern Oregon in the back-half of that day's basketball doubleheader. Action inside PEAC will commence at 2 p.m. when Cal Maritime's men's basketball team hosts Bushnell.

The Keelhauler Classic provides Cal Maritime with its final official games of 2021 since the final game of the calendar year is set for Thursday, December 30 at Holy Names (2 p.m. tip in Oakland). Even though this game is an exhibition, that game against the Hawks, combined with this weekend's Keelhauler Classic slate, will provide Cal Maritime with its final tune-ups before Cal Pac action begins on January 8 at Simpson.

Once the Keelhaulers leave PEAC Main Gym following the conclusion of Sunday's game, they will experience another home hiatus since the team will not host another game until UC Merced visits Vallejo on January 10.

Having split its 12 games played so far this season, UC Merced will face Oregon Tech following Tuesday's exhibition at Nevada. Prior to visiting Reno for its game against the Wolf Pack, the Bobcats were playing solid basketball by winning five of seven games.

A three-game win streak was snapped on their home court vs. Menlo College; the Bobcats responded with home victories against Holy Names and Bethesda before falling at UC Santa Cruz by 10 last Friday.

Following its hot start of the season, which featured five straight wins against William Jessup, Cal Maritime, both games against Simpson, and Linfield, Oregon Tech's momentum faltered in the following weeks after suffering losses in its last three played against Southern Oregon, College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon.

The Owls will take full advantage of games scheduled this week since they are the final ones before Cascade Collegiate Conference action commences next Friday.

As is the case with OIT, Southern Oregon also suffered three losses this season. However, two of those results were exhibitions against Boise State and Humboldt State; Whitman was the only team to defeat the Raiders as that result prevented SOU from opening the season with a three-game winning streak.

Following that result on Whitman's home floor, the Raiders responded by winning its next seven straight, a block of victories that includes three against Cal Pac Conference teams: Embry-Riddle, Simpson, and Pacific Union.

Southern Oregon will return to Northern California for the second time within a three-week timespan since the team's Thanksgiving break included game at PUC and William Jessup. Between trips, the Raiders opened CCC competition with wins against Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho.

In the NAIA's recent national poll, unveiled by the organization on December 1, Southern Oregon was one of 19 teams receiving votes. If the Raiders week at Cal Maritime includes results similar to preceding weeks, they will surely enjoy a dramatic climb up the rankings when the next list is announced on December 15.
