Late surge helps Holy Names pull away from Keelhaulers

VALLEJO, Calif. – Trailing by as many as 18 points in Wednesday's non-conference game vs. Division II foe Holy Names, Cal Maritime chopped that deficit in half before the visiting Hawks connected on timely shots from three — 11 of their 25 field goals were recorded from behind the arc, to pull away and defeat the Keelhaulers, 67-56, at PEAC Main Gym.

Cal Maritime will continue its season-opening six-game home on Sunday when UC Santa Cruz visits Vallejo for the team's final pre-Cal Pac tune-up, which tips-off at 2 p.m. and enter that matchup with an 0-3 record. Holy Names will continue its season at 1-2.

The Keelhaulers started the evening strong by scoring seven of the game's first 10 points, and held a five-point lead until the Hawks responded by finishing the first quarter on a 14-1 run to create a sizable cushion that lasted until CSUM pulled within nine in the second half.

For the third time in as many games, Alicia Porter led the way for CSUM by finishing with a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds. Porter was efficient from the field by knocking in half of her 16 attempts from the floor and 5 of 6 at the line.

Kai Kraus also connected on half of her six field goal attempts and connected on 6 of 8 at the line to end her night with a season-high 13 points.
