VALLEJO, Calif. – A stretch of road games that commenced on December 31 at Simpson will conclude this weekend when women's basketball heads to Riverside and Antelope Valley for this weekend's Cal Pac contests against La Sierra and Antelope Valley. Thursday's tipoff against the Golden Eagles is slated for 5:30 p.m. with Saturday's game versus the Pioneers starting at 2 p.m.
This pair of upcoming road matchups represent the final portion of the Keelhaulers' season-long road swing. As a reward for multiple weeks of action at opponents' respective facilities is a stretch of basketball that includes five of six games taking place throughout the final weeks of January, and initial week of February, inside PEAC Main Gym.
Before Cal Maritime enjoys a home-heavy portion of its schedule, the team will first face a La Sierra squad that dropped two of three played throughout its recent road swing. After suffering back-to-back losses against Westcliff and Simpson, the Golden Eagles rebounded to edge UC Merced by one point last Saturday.
Even though La Sierra trailed for most of the evening, it ended the final five minutes of that contest on an 18-4 run to erase a 67-54 deficit and defeat the host Bobcats.
Of its eight Cal Pac games, LSU is at .500 with a 4-4 conference record. Even though the Golden Eagles are 1-4 overall at home this season, they won the lone league conference that took place inside Alumni Pavilion by topping Saint Katherine, 56-47, on December 20.
Thursday's event will feature two of the league's top scorers when Alicia Porter and Sydney Wallner square off in the first of two head-to-head contests this season. Porter leads all Cal Pac players with her 27.2 points per game average, nearly nine full points ahead of the next ranked women's basketball player. Wallner's 15.8 ppg average is the fourth-highest individual figure.
The Keelhaulers are not the only Cal Pac team that will enjoy a month filled with home games since CSUM is the first of five straight La Sierra opponents visiting Riverside in January.
Following Thursday night's game, only a midday clash at Antelope Valley stands between CSUM and January 19th's home game against Simpson.
The Pioneers enter this week's league slate atop the Cal Pac standings with a 10-6 overall and 7-1 conference record. After winning its first two league games, Antelope Valley suffered its only league loss on December 9 at Embry-Riddle.
Since then, UAV won its next five against Cal Pac opposition and will host Pacific Union Thursday night before facing the Keelhaulers two days later.
Of the eight teams that visited the Pioneer Event Center this season, only Southern Oregon and No. 21 Dakota Wesleyan departed Lancaster with a victory.
