"It was super exciting to see Alicia become the second-leading scorer in program history, and naturally, we wanted to get the win. However, we hit some of our targets and goals we wanted to accomplish throughout this game and consistently improving on both sides of the court, even though that may not show up on the box score," said head coach Imhotet Amen-Ra.
Aysia Santos matched Porter's point total and Anika Carey finished one point shy of matching her teammates' team-high total. Lexy Wallace was the fourth Keelhauler who finished in double figures by hitting 4 of 5 shots from the floor, and a free throw, to end her afternoon with a season-high 10 points.
Said Amen-Ra, "I thought we shot extremely well the second half, we did well for three-quarters of the game. That lull during the second quarter was tough for us, but I thought we responded well throughout the second half with great energy."
Following next week's inaugural league game vs. the Warriors, Cal Maritime will square off against Saint Katherine and UC Merced before opening a season-long six-game road swing on December 8 at Simpson.
"I also want to thank my coaching staff for all of their hard work this season. We are improving as a team, and that is due to their dedication to every cadet-athlete. It's been an exciting experience so far and I look forward to working alongside a staff filled with talented individuals that will strengthen this program as the season continues."
