VALLEJO, Calif. – Women's basketball will end a season-long string of road games this week when it visits Pacific Union for both of this week's California Pacific Conference games.
When it heads to Angwin for Tuesday's rivalry game against the Pioneers, CSUM will seek its third straight victory versus the Pioneers since this is a true road matchup for the Keelhaulers.
Two days later when it returns to Covered Wagon, CSUM will square off against Antelope Valley in the last of seven games played outside of PEAC Main Gym since the team's last home game, which took place on December 6 against UC Merced.
Included in that block of road contests is an exhibition event at Pacific.
Cal Maritime is the designated home team for Thursday's Cal Pac game versus the Pioneers since U.S. Coast Guard exams are taking place this week inside PEAC. Since the initial set of exam dates changed before the start of the season, but after Cal Pac officials announced its 2023-24 basketball schedules, the Keelhaulers needed to shift the site of their home game against Antelope Valley to another location.
Still seeing its first win of the season, Pacific Union will host the Keelhaulers in the first of five straight games taking place on its home court. Once this season-long stretch of home action concludes, the Pioneers will face a road-heavy back-half of the season with seven of their final nine games taking place on the road.
By comparison — especially following a brutal road swing that took women's basketball from Vallejo, to Prescott, Arizona, to Riverside, California, back to campus within a five-day timespan — the Keelhaulers' will open a four-game homestand next week and play seven of the next 10 on their home court.
Keep an eye on Alicia Porter throughout Tuesday's game because she is responsible for two of the league's top-four single-game scoring totals (43 and 41 points), and the league record for most rebounds in a single game (26) — accomplishments that took place during her team's last two games at PUC.
Porter continues to inch her way towards the program's all-time career scoring record of 1,480 points, currently held by Lauren Westbrook (2006-10).
Entering this week's action, the Simi Valley native sits second all-time with 1,244 career points, 236 shy of matching Westbrook's total.
Once the Keelhaulers return home Tuesday night, they will have one day to prepare for their return trip to Angwin for Thursday's neutral-site game against an Antelope Valley squad that currently sits atop the Cal Pac standings in first place. The defending league champions are 9-6 overall and 5-1 throughout league play, suffering its lone loss at Park Gilbert in their November 30 conference opener.
