VALLEJO, Calif. — This weekend is a bittersweet one for women's basketball because two members of the program, Marissa Serrano and Alicia Porter, will make their final appearances as a Keelhauler inside PEAC Main Gym when La Sierra, Embry-Riddle (AZ) and Pacific Union visit campus for CSUM's final homestand of the season.
The program's Senior Day pregame ceremony will take place Saturday afternoon before that 2 p.m. Cal Pac contest tips-off, fans are encouraged to arrive to PEAC Main Gym and secure their seats no later than 1:45 p.m. to help Cal Maritime honor members of their senior class.
Since family, friends and loved ones joined Porter at last year's Senior Day ceremony — she is currently pursuing a graduate degree after earning her undergraduate last academic year — the program will recognize her before honoring Serrano with her invited guests.
The Keelhaulers' homestand will open Thursday night against La Sierra at 5:30 p.m.; the Department of Athletics welcomes Doris Bumpus as that game's National Anthem singer — one of numerous elements taking place that game to recognize National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Set this year for February 7, NGWSD is an annual day of observance to recognize women's sports, honor coaches, administrators, staff members and other individuals who play key roles in helping girls and women reach their full athletics, academic and personal potential through athletic opportunities at all levels, acknowledge the accomplishments of girls and women in sports and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports.
Following Saturday's Senior Day game against the Eagles, Cal Maritime will end is 2023-24 home schedule against its league rival, Pacific Union, and look to sweep this year's series after defeating the Pioneers in early January.
Tuesday's rivalry matchup is a designated Gold Game by The Watch, Cal Maritime's official student spirit organization, which means cadets can enjoy various giveaways and participate in numerous events throughout that afternoon.
This upcoming homestand also provides basketball fans with their final opportunities to watch Porter, the program's No. 2 all-time scorer, compete in person at home.
The Simi Valley native enters the weekend 105 points shy of matching Lauren Westbrook's all-time career record of 1,480 points.
