Porter ties all-time scoring record at Park Gilbert

MESA, Ariz. – By scoring 18 points in Thursday's Cal Pac Conference game at the Arizona Athletic Grounds, graduate student forward Alicia Porter and Lauren Greenwell (Westbrook) now share the program's all-time scoring record with 1,480 career points with one game remaining on women's basketball's schedule — Saturday's 2 p.m. regular season finale versus Benedictine Mesa at The PHHacility, located in Phoenix.

That game is the last in a Cal Maritime uniform for Porter and senior Marissa Serrano; the duo led the Keelhaulers in scoring, with the latter recording 10 points in a game that saw the Buccaneers' three-point shooting serve as the difference in a game Park Gilbert won, 85-60.

The Buccaneers hit 11 of 28 attempts from distance compared to the Keelhaulers who finished 4-for-21.

However, Cal Maritime shot .426 overall from the floor, one of its highest clips of the year.

Combined with their season-high .571 percentage in last week's home finale vs. Pacific Union, the Keelhauler shot 40 percent or higher in two of their last three games.

"I am super happy that AP tied the all-time scoring record with Lauren, it is an honor to witness that and have the team become a part of that historic accomplishment," said head coach Imhotet Amen-Ra.

"One of the things about this team is that we are a high-volume team from three. Sometimes you have nights like this one; if we finished closer to our average, I think this is a different game."

Amen-Ra added, "we will focus on a couple components entering Saturday's game and hopefully execute at a level that will help us end the season on a positive note, especially for our graduating seniors."
