Alicia Porter named unanimous All-Cal Pac First Team selection for second straight season
VALLEJO, Calif. – Graduate student forward Alicia Porter's historic season continued Saturday night when she became the first Cal Maritime women's basketball player to earn unanimous All-Cal Pac First Team honors, in consecutive season, when conference officials announced this year's women's basketball honor roll Saturday night.
"It's been a joy to get a chance to witness history in real time. Alicia has been a pillar of this program for years, this award is a true testament to her continued effort, night in and night out," said head coach Imhotet Amen-Ra. "
"The fact that she was willing to come back for one more year, and help lead this group for one more year, let's me know that she will accomplish amazing things once she enters the next chapter of her life."
The league bestowed its end-of-year awards one week after Porter became Cal Maritime's new all-time leading scorer.
Entering women's basketball's season finale at Park Gilbert, the Simi Valley, California native sat alongside Lauren Greenwell (Westbrook) as the program's No. 1 scorer with 1,480 points. By recording her first point of that game midway through the first quarter at the free throw line, Porter secured the top spot in CSUM's record books and finished her illustrious career with 1,506 points.
By ending that game with 26 points and 10 rebounds, she collected her 13th double-double of the season and 45th of her career.
Porter now ranks second all-time in Cal Pac history with that career double-double total, eighth in points scored and third with 874 rebounds.
In her final season at CSUM, women's basketball's all-time leading scorer and rebounder was the league's lone player to average a double-double: she ranked fourth in each category by averaging 17.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
Among all Cal Pac players, she ranked second in field goals made (152) and defensive rebounds (182), third in points scored (414), fourth in three throws made (87), free throw percentage (.821) and total rebounds (244), eights in offensive rebounds (62) and 10th in field goal percentage (.426).
Responsible for setting a slew of career records Porter is the only Keelhauler in program history to earn National Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors from the NAIA, an accomplishment that took place twice in her career.
"You don't replace someone like AP, she created the blueprint for success on the court, in the classroom and throughout the campus community for future Keelhaulers," added Amen-Ra.
After earning a degree in global studies and maritime affairs last spring, she will complete the requirements for a graduate degree in transportation and engineering with a concentration in engineering management this academic year.
