CSUM shatters program records in 31-point home victory
VALLEJO, Calif. – Women's basketball fans left PEAC Main Gym thrilled in Saturday's non-conference game vs. Bethesda because of the way the Keelhaulers played, and the way they rebounded after dropping their season opener less than 24 hours earlier versus OUAZ.
Cal Maritime set multiple new records in their 91-62 victory — the second-highest point total recorded in a victory during the post-COVID era.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Keelhaulers finished with 107 field goal attempts, 54 three-point attempts, 52 rebounds and forced Bethesda to turn the ball over 51 times.
Those figures are not a misprint, all are new program records.
"I was thrilled to see how this team battled back after last night's tough game to respond the way they did," said head coach Imhotet Amen-Ra. "They made extra passes when they needed to, played unselfish and smart basketball to give their teammates open loos all night long.
"Everyone in the program is excited to end the weekend with a split of our weekend homestand."
Cal Maritime will enter next Saturday's road game at UC Santa Cruz, the first away game of the year, with a 1-1 overall record.
Aysia Santos scored 18 points — five of her six baskets were earned from three — and was one of four Keelhaulers who finished in double figures. She fell one three-pointer shy of matching Jaz Novelli's team-high total of 21 points, as she shot 9 of 17 overall in her second game in blue and gold.
Led by Jameelah Pharms, who notched her first double-double of her collegiate career by posting 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. CSUM's reserves scored a combined 50 points.
Responsible for their portion of that total was Novelli and teammate Alina Daffon, who ended her night with 15 points.
Cal Maritime's balanced scoring included nine, eight and seven points from Addison Alsbury, Tiare Novero-Paaga and Kai Kraus, respectively.
The Keelhaulers led by as many as 36 with four minutes left to play.
