VALLEJO, Calif. – Before everyone's attention is squarely focused on final exams and papers, Cal Maritime play three games within six days, starting its first home games in a month: Monday versus Dominican and Thursday against Park Gilbert.

Once that matchup against the Buccaneers concludes, the Keelhaulers will have less than 48 hours to prep for Santa Clara, its second exhibition opponent of the year.

This week provides the Keelhaulers with a stern test since Dominican and Santa Clara are Division II and D-I opponents, respectively.

Coming off an attention-grabbing victory at Lincoln (CA) in its previous game, one that led to Cal Pac Offensive Player of the Week honors for Jaz Novelli, CSUM will bring hard-earned momentum from that matchup versus the Oaklanders to PEAC Main Gym this week.

Monday night's game is the second straight against a Cal Pac opponent for Dominican after defeating UC Merced at home by 23 points.

This is the fifth all-time matchup between the Keelhaulers and Penguins, the first in nearly 14 years — the last head-to-head game took place on December 10, 2011, a game Cal Maritime won in San Rafael by an 81-68 result — and the last non-conference game for Dominican before opening Pac West Conference play on Thursday.

Park Gilbert was part of a pair of milestones in Cal Maritime Women's Basketball's recent history. Last year in CSUM's penultimate game of the season during a weekend-long road trip in Arizona, recent graduate Alicia Porter tied the program's all-time scoring record before the final buzzer sounded that night. Nearly one year prior in front of the Keelhauler faithful inside PEAC Main Gym, Porter became the third CSUM player in women's basketball history score 1,000 career points.

The Buccaneers and Keelhaulers faced each other four times when both competed in the Cal Pac — this is Park Gilbert's first season in the Golden State Athletic Conference — with the former winning each occasion.  With Cal Maritime earning its first-ever victory against Lincoln (CA) this season, it would love nothing more than to repeat this feat against another opponent.

Even though the game is an exhibition and does not officially count as part of its overall record, Saturday afternoon's action in Santa Clara is a true iron-sharpens-iron situation. Since the Broncos are a NCAA Div. I program, the Keelhaulers will not face a tougher opponent once Cal Pac action starts in mid-January.

Approximately 65 miles separate the two campuses, but this is the first head-to-head match between Cal Maritime and Santa Clara.
