Women's basketball enjoys strong second half at Simpson

REDDING, Calif. – Cal Maritime outscored Simpson 17-9 in the third quarter by shooting .429 overall (8 of 19) while limiting the Red Hawks to only four field goals that quarter in Saturday's Cal Pac Conference game at the James M. Grant Center in Redding, California.

Cal Maritime's strong second half also included a shooting performance that saw it connect on 8 of 19 attempts from the field in the third quarter (.421) and 16 of 34 (.471)  combined after halftime.

Unfortunately for the Keelhaulers, they only connected on 2 of 6 trips to the free throw line the entire game — Simpson took 25 shots at the stripe and made 18 — in a game the hosts won by a 78-59 score.

Dylan Fulton led the Keelhaulers with 15 points, scoring all but two in the second half, and finished with a team-high six rebounds.

Saturday's contest was the first of four straight conference games on the road, a block of action that continues at La Sierra and Westcliff next weekend, following by the first of two rivalry games against Pacific Union on February 1.

Included within that chunk of Cal Pac action is a January 30 non-conference meeting with UC Santa Cruz at home, a game that caps the season series versus the Banana Slugs.
