VALLEJO, Calif. — Cal Maritime will enjoy a brief respite from the road when it hosts UC Santa Cruz in this season's series finale Thursday night inside PEAC Main Gym. After the matchup vs. the Banana Slugs, women's basketball will play the last of three straight away games against Cal Pac Conference competition when it heads to Angwin for its annual road game against its rival, Pacific Union.
Tipoff inside Covered Wagon is set for 6 p.m. Saturday.
A visit to Santa Cruz took place for the Keelhaulers' first road trip of the season, a game that saw CSUM even the score at 76 apiece to force overtime.
In that extra session, teams traded the lead until a late three from UCSC gave it a four-point lead, a cushion that ultimately became the margin of victory for Santa Cruz – a Division III program.
Cal Maritime will look to avenge that loss and split the season series when UC Santa Cruz visits Vallejo for the first time since November 20, 2022.
Two days later, the Keelhaulers will complete the first round of league action when it returns to Angwin for the second time within 25 days.
On January 8, CSUM played its first game since December 11 against the Pioneers in a designated non-conference matchup. In addition to shaking off any rust accumulated during its four-week hiatus, women's basketball's defense limited PUC to 40 points that night, a season low for any opponent this year.
