VALLEJO, Calif. – Coming off a sixth-place finish at the Embry-Riddle Spring Invite, Cal Maritime's inaugural team tournament of the season, women's golf will return to action at Gold Hills Golf Club in Redding, California, to compete for a team and individual title at the Cal Pac Women's Golf Championship. This three-day event, hosted by Simpson University, will take place from April 11-13 with competitors playing 18 holes each day.
In addition to defending team and individual champion Embry-Riddle, Cal Maritime and eight other Cal Pac teams — Antelope Valley, Benedictine Mesa, Marymount California, Park University – Gilbert, Providence Christian, Sierra Nevada, Simpson and Soka — will compete for this year's league crown and a berth in the NAIA's postseason tournament.
The 27th Annual Women's Golf National Championship is slated for May 24-27 and will take place at Lincoln Park West in Oklahoma City.
This year's conference championship will mark Cal Maritime's inaugural appearance as a team, and all four cadet-athletes representing the Keelhaulers: Yanna Albarracin, Ambria Gee, Natalie So and senior Tiara Supakit, who will earn her undergraduate degree in a few weeks.
The Cal Pac Championship is the latest highlight of the season for Supakit — the founding member of the Keelhaulers' women's golf team, the first female cadet-athlete golfer at Cal Maritime and recipient of the program's Most Inspirational Award at the Athletic Department's recent Winter-Spring Banquet.
In addition to the Keelhaulers capturing sixth place in its previous tournament, one that saw the opening round cancelled due to snow and golfers squeezing in 18-hole rounds in each of the following two days, Supakit posted the team's best individual result by tying for 33rd.
The Spring Invite also doubled as So's Keelhauler debut; by joining the program earlier this calendar year, women's golf met the threshold needed to compete as a team instead of only recording individual results.
As is the case with So, Albarracin and Gee will enjoy their postseason debut in Redding.
