Mike Carvalho Joins Women's Soccer Coaching Staff
California State University Maritime Academy has named Michael Carvalho assistant coach of its Women's Soccer Program. Carvalho is a Benicia resident and the Head Coach of American Canyon Atletico Girl's Futbol Club.
Carvalho has coached over 30 club and high school teams during his coaching career and has won three state cups and several league championships. His credentials include a USSF E License, NSCAA National Diploma, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, and an NSCAA Premier Diploma.
Last year Carvalho earned the highest United Soccer Coaches and University of Delaware certification, the Master Coach Diploma. Currently only 70 coaches worldwide have earned this prestigious diploma.
As a teenager and young adult, Carvalho played high school soccer in Massachusetts and semi-professional club soccer in Montana and California. Carvalho has a passion for the game and strives to teach and coach tactical predictive soccer.
Carvalho has an Associate's Degree from Solano Community College and a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. When Carvalho is not coaching soccer, he manages the technology infrastructure team at AC Transit in Oakland, CA.
"I'm excited to help Coach Emily Scheese build our woman's program from the ground up," Carvalho said. "I know this new program will be a great asset for women's soccer in our local community. If we can create one opportunity for a local youth player to play collegiate soccer then our time spent recruiting will be well spent."
The Cal Maritime Women's Soccer Program will begin intercollegiate play in the Fall of 2018, competing in the Cal Pac Conference of the NAIA.
