VALLEJO, Calif. – Instead of returning to action for the first time since the conclusion of the 2019 season last week, Cal Maritime will play its first games of the year at Bodnar Field, starting with Thursday's 5 p.m. non-conference clash against Mills College. Following its season opener vs. the Cyclones, women's soccer will host Marymount California in its Cal Pac opener, slated for Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Featured throughout fourth-year head coach Emily Scheese's 2021 roster is a mix of experienced players and young talent. In addition to a five-member senior class, six freshmen cadet-athletes will represent the Keelhaulers for the first time in their respective careers when they step onto Bodnar Field this week.

After splitting a pair of scrimmages, Mills College dropped its first five games of the season and will face the Keelhaulers off a 4-0 home loss against Warner Pacific. With William Jessup canceling its September 24 home meeting against the Cyclones, Thursday's game will end a 16-day hiatus.

Cal Maritime is the final non-conference tune-up for a Mills College squad that will begin league play the following weekend at UC Santa Cruz.

Since Marymount California won the last two head-to-head games, the Keelhaulers are focused on preventing it from extending this streak in their first conference game since November 11, 2019.

Following a three-game homestand, which included losses to Southern Oregon, Rocky Mountain College and 18th-ranked Westmont College, the Mariners finished with a scoreless draw at The Master's University. Unfortunately for Marymount California, it fell in each of the following four contests on the road: at Ottawa University–Arizona, Hope University, Vanguard University and inaugural league contest of 2021 last Thursday vs. La Sierra.

A road-heavy portion of their schedule will continue on Thursday when the Mariners visit Simpson before heading to Vallejo for Saturday's game at Bodnar Field.
