VALLEJO, Calif. – A four-game road swing will continue for Cal Maritime this weekend when it heads to Southern California for a pair of non-conference matches (even though both schools are Cal Pac Conference members, neither are part of the North Division; games against division opponents are the only ones that qualify as conference matchups).
The Keelhaulers' trip will start on Friday when it heads to Carlsbad to face Saint Katherine at 12:30 p.m., then continue two days later in Irvine versus Westcliff before heading back to Vallejo later that day.
Women's soccer's current four-game swing will conclude on October 22 at UC Merced before it returns to Bodnar Field on the 24th to host Sierra Nevada.
Sophomore forward Mia Rathsack has been on fire lately for Cal Maritime by scoring goals in each of her team's last two games. Of her five shots on goal, two found the back of the net.
Another Keelhauler who has impressed on a consistent basis throughout the opening weeks of the season is junior goalkeeper Madison Dack, who is averaging 10.50 saves per game in 2021. That average is the third highest in the league and sixth highest in the country.
Cal Maritime's week will begin against the Firebirds, a team that won three of its four home games played this season and two of its last three that took place in Carlsbad thanks to a 2-1 result on October 3 vs. Embry-Riddle and a 3-0 shutout result against Park University (Sept. 24).
Between those games, Saint Katherine suffered a 2-0 loss to Benedictine University — its lone home defeat of 2021. The Firebirds opened the year with a 1-0 win when they hosted La Sierra University.
After dropping back-to-back games against Benedictine University and at La Sierra, Saint Katherine rebounded last week with victories against Embry-Riddle and at Westcliff.
Keep an eye on senior forward Isabela Deleon because she leads a group of nine SK scorers with four goals.
Once action concludes in Carlsbad, the Keelhaulers will head north to face Westcliff on Sunday in Irvine at Great Park.
On September 26, the Warriors defeated Park-Gilbert to collect their lone victory within a five-game timespan. Prior to that result, they lost at Soka by a 3-0 score and dropped the following game to OUAZ (Surprise, Ariz.), 4-0.
Before hosting the Keelhaulers, Westcliff will host Pacific Union Friday night, and continue its current six-game homestand after suffering a pair of losses to Embry-Riddle (6-0) and Saint Katherine (2-1 in OT) last week.
