Women’s soccer awarded Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award by United Soccer Coaches

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Cal Maritime's women's soccer team is a recipient of the 2022 United Soccer Coach's Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.

With only two yellow cards and zero red cards drawn in 16 games played, the Keelhaulers earned the Silver Award from United Soccer Coaches. Cal Maritime was the only Cal Pac institution, from any men's or women's program within the conference, to earn recognition from USC when it unveiled its list of honorees.

The organization's award recognized teams that exhibited fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of cautions (yellow cards) or red ejection cards shown by referees throughout the 2022 season.

Each tier of the award is based on the number of cards accumulated divided by the number of games played, with no team displaying an average higher than 0.50 yellow cards per game earing the award. Teams that received at least one red card were not eligible for the recognition.

Eleven teams from NAIA, all three NCAA and junior college levels, were recipients of the Gold Award, given to teams with a percentage of cards ranging from 1-10 percent. A total of 50 teams claimed the Silver Award, which is given to teams that accumulate a percentage of cards ranging from 11-30 percent; 55 teams earned the Bronze Award, presented to programs that accumulate a percentage of cards ranging from 31-50 percent.
