VALLEJO, Calif. – Even though Cal Maritime missed a few players in Sunday's Cal Pac Conference matchup vs. Pacific Union due to fire training — a mandatory part of some majors that cannot be rescheduled or attended another weekend without falling drastically behind towards one's academic progress — the shorthanded roster that was available gave the Pioneers a challenge throughout the afternoon until the Pioneers scored a majority of their goals after halftime in a game they won, 6-0.
In her first career appearance in goal, Hayden Carter finished with 12 saves for the Keelhaulers, the designated road team since Sunday's contest was a Pacific Union home match but played in Vallejo since the Pioneers' field was deemed unsuitable for competition.
Even though Sunday's "road" game was held at Bodnar Field, women's soccer will take its first true road trip Thursday when it faces Simpson at 10 a.m. in Redding.
