VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime enjoyed a strong start to Friday's Cal Pac Conference game at Bodnar Field when Ciara Kelly intercepted a goal kick from Pacific Union, immediately turned and caught the Pioneers' goalkeeper off her line to help the Keelhaulers take a 1-0 lead seven minutes into their season finale at Bodnar Field.
Pacific Union evened the score with seven minutes remaining until halftime when a free kick, taken from the near sideline, ricocheted off the back post and rolled into the back of the net.
The score remained deadlocked at one apiece until 20 minutes into the second half when a PUC corner kick was redirected towards goal in what ultimately became the game-winning shot in a match that the Pioneers won, 3-1.
Senior goalkeeper Leeza Bremermann finished with 16 saves for the Keelhaulers. graduate student Amanda Carvalho led Cal Maritime with two shots.
