Women's Cross Country Makes 2017 Debut at PUC
Angwin, Calif. -- Alanna Kochuten led all Keelhaulers finishing ninth overall in a competitive field that featured UC Santa Cruz, Dominican University, La Sierra and Pacific Union College.
The Cal Maritime Women's Cross Country team ran its first race of 2017 at the PUC Invitational held at Pacific Union College in Angwin, Calif. on Sunday, September 24. The women's team took to the starting line first in a challenging course of hills and rugged terrain in the picturesque setting of Window Tree.
Junior Evelyn Esparza shaved off over a minute from her time at the 2016 PUC Invitational. Freshman Lauren Silva finished 17th her Keelhauler debut, and coach Jeff Ward feels she has a promising future with the Keelhaulers.
"Lauren brings a ton of energy to every practice, and her positive spirit is infectious with her team mates," Ward said. "Watching her hard work pay off on the course was a highlight for me."
The Keelhaulers look to be at full strength next week when they participate in the Sonoma State Invitational held at Spring Lake Regional Park in Santa Rosa, Calif. Race time for the women's six-kilometer race is scheduled for 9 a.m.
