VALLEJO, Calif. – The wait is finally over for Cal Maritime men's basketball fans now that the start of the 2021-22 season has arrive as the Keelhaulers will participate in official competition, for the first time since February 29, 2020, at this weekend's home tournament — the Frank Dye Classic.
Visiting Vallejo for this two-day event, which starts on Friday, are Menlo College, Warner Pacific, and West Coast Baptist.
This tournament will commence on Friday, at 5:30 p.m., when Menlo faces Warner Pacific, followed by the Keelhaulers' 7:30 p.m. season opener vs. West Coast Baptist. The following day, WCB will square off against Menlo in the day's 5:30 p.m. neutral game followed by Cal Maritime-Warner Pacific at 7:30 p.m.

The Tim Bross era will officially begin when Cal Maritime steps on the PEAC's court Friday night against the Eagles. When that game tips-off, the 2021-22 squad — led by its pair of seniors in Trey Porter and Cetrick Yeanay — featuring seven upperclassmen, nine underclassmen and four freshmen, will begin their pursuit of a Cal Pac championship.
"Everyone is revisiting an old friend, after some time away," said Coach Bross, regarding his team's return to action following a COVID-canceled 2020-21 season. "Most of all, I am happy for the guys because they can play the game they love and show the community how hard they worked throughout the off-season."
Bross became the program's head coach in October of 2020.
"I want people to know this team for its toughness," said Bross. "Running the floor, rebounding, defending, and taking good shots are huge parts of what we do. It's tough to run the floor, it's tough to rebound the ball, it's tough to give your all defensively or create good looks but I expect the guys to execute this consistently because they are all areas we can control."
Including this weekend's tournament, six of the Keelhaulers' first seven games will take place inside PEAC.
