Menlo pulls away late to defeat Keelhaulers

ATHERTON, Calif. – Trailing 37-35 at halftime of Wednesday's road game at Menlo, the host Oaks extended their lead to 11 until Cal Maritime battled back and pulled within two, thanks to timely baskets and stout defense that only allowed two points within a 4:33 timespan.

What began with a pair of free throws and a layup from Braxton Adderly continued with an Amil Fields three, a free throw from Eric Figueroa and another basket from distance from Fields, which pulled the Keelhaulers back within two with a little over nine minutes remaining.

As the game continued, the Oaks slowly started pulling away, ultimately returning its lead to double figures with just under three minutes left to play in a game that ended in their favor by a 71-57 score.

Cal Maritime will return to action right away since its next game will take place Thursday evening against Bethesda. Tipoff inside PEAC Main Gym is set for 7:30 p.m. and the Keelhaulers will return home with a 1-2 record.

Menlo remains undefeated and will continue its season at 5-0.

Adderly, Eric Norton and Fields led the Keelhaulers in scoring with 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively; the Oaks' Corey Le'aupepe led all players with 22 points.
