VALLEJO, Calif. – For the second time in as many games, Cal Maritime will face William Jessup when it heads to Rocklin for the back-half of this year's home-and-home series. These teams first squared off last Monday, November 15, in a back-and-forth thriller that saw the Warriors pull away for good at the free throw line in the final seconds.
This week, the Keelhaulers are ready to return to action following a week-long hiatus and secure a season split against William Jessup.
Since facing Cal Maritime inside PEAC Main Gym, WJ embarked on a Southern California road trip that saw it split a pair of games played against Vanguard and Life Pacific. Following its 86-73 loss in Costa Mesa, the Warriors ended their trip with a 98-95 double-OT victory at Life Pacific, capping an eight-day timespan that included four road games.
Eastern Oregon will face Cal Maritime for the first time since October 27, 2018 — a game the Keelhaulers won on their home court by an 80-71 score.
Cal Maritime will only face William Jessup before welcoming the Mountaineers to Vallejo; by comparison, EOU will face 18th-ranked College of Idaho on Tuesday and play consecutive games at William Jessup and Menlo College on Friday and Saturday before completing its Northern California road swing in Vallejo.
Entering this week's schedule, Eastern Oregon is 3-1 this season after defeating Montana Tech, Montana Western and Whitman. Its lone loss took place in the second game of the season when the Mountaineers battled Carroll College in its home tournament, the Comfort Suites Classic.
Following this weekend's home game vs. EOU, the Keelhaulers will face a light, yet home-heavy December schedule that includes game at PEAC against Antelope Valley (12/5), Bushnell (12/12) and an exhibition vs. Holy Names (12/14). A December 30 game at West Coast Baptist is the lone road event of the month, and the penultimate tune-up for Cal Pac play.
Before opening league action on January 8 at Simpson, Cal Maritime will head to UC Santa Cruz on January 4 for its final non-conference matchup of the 2021-22 season.
