Men's basketball secures season sweep over PUC on Senior Day

VALLEJO, Calif. – Before the start of Saturday's Cal Pac home finale versus Pacific Union, the men's basketball program honored its seniors, Cetrick Yeanay and Trey Porter, in a pregame ceremony that also featured their family members and loved ones.

Once action began, their teammates wasted no time in taking control of the game by scoring the first 17 points of the night and held the Pioneers scoreless until the 14:18 mark of the opening half. The Keelhaulers were focused on sending their graduating seniors out on a positive note, in the final home game of their respective careers, by pulling away as the game progressed.

Held to only 28 points in the first half, PUC saw Cal Maritime enter the locker room with a 19-point lead, and saw that advantage swell to as many as 35 in a game the Keelhaulers won by a 96-69 score.

With Saturday's result, Cal Maritime swept the season series, improved its overall and conference records to 11-7 and 6-2, respectively, and will enter a three-game season-ending road swing atop the Cal Pac North Division standings.

The Keelhaulers will head to Redding on Wednesday to face Simpson at 7:30 p.m., in a league showdown featuring the division's top two teams, before heading to Southern California for games at La Sierra on Feb. 19 (8:30 p.m. start) and Antelope Valley (7:30 p.m.) two days later.

Yeanay led a quarter of double-digit scorers by hitting four of his five baskets from three, and 5 of 6 attempts at the stripe to finish with a team-high 19. Braxton Adderly scored 17 by hitting 5 of 6 field goals from three; Eric Norton added another 11 points and Porter ended his night with 10 points and six rebounds.

As a team, the Keelhaulers shot a blistering 50 percent overall from the floor, 54 pct. from three and 83 pct. at the line in the first half alone before ending the night with respective shooting percentages of 51, 44 and 85 pct.

Cal Maritime also outrebounded Pacific Union, 48-26 overall, finished with more points in the paint (28-14) and saw its reserved score 42 points compared to the Pioneers' 30.
