Lee Jones Jr. leads Keelhaulers in season opener vs. Menlo

VALLEJO, Calif. - Lee Jones Jr.'s Keelhauler debut was an impressive one as he finished Friday's season opener, and Frank Dye Memorial Game, with a game-high 23 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the floor, and hit 9 of 10 free throws in a tightly contested game that included 14 tied scores and eight lead changes.

Even at 59 with 54 seconds remaining, Miles Pennington hit one of two shots from the stripe to give Cal Maritime a narrow lead entering the homestretch. A layup from Menlo's Corey Le'aupepe gave the Oaks the lead for good because the visitors hit all six of their attempts from the line from that point on to pull away and record a 67-60 victory over the Keelhaulers.

Men's basketball will not wait long for an opportunity to secure its first victory of the year because Cal Maritime will head to Atherton, California, to face Montana Western in Saturday's 5:30 p.m. neutral-site matchup hosted by Menlo College.

In addition to scoring 15 points, Pennington also ended the night with a team-high seven rebounds.
