Men’s basketball’s busy weekend ends with a neutral-site game vs. Montana Western

ATHERTON, Calif. – Twenty-two hours after opening the season at PEAC Main Gym, Cal Maritime's season continued with a neutral-site non-conference matchup, hosted by Menlo College in Atherton, against Montana Western.

In this evenly-played match — each team scored 40 points in the paint and recorded eight points at the free throw line — only three baskets separated Cal Maritime's total of 24 and the Bulldogs' 27, but those three field goals ended up being the difference in the game since each of those were made from three, and represented the final margin of victory for Montana Western in its 69-60 win.

Miles Pennington and Parker Wight each scored double figures by finishing with 17 and 10 points, respectively, as eight of Cal Maritime's nine players who saw action on Saturday scored.

Led by Justice Cole's 11, the Keelhaulers dominated the glass by outrebounding the Bulldogs 38-29 overall, 13-5 on offense and 25-24 on defense.

Following its busy weekend, Cal Maritime will return to action on Saturday, November 5, when it hosts Westmont in a 3 p.m. non-conference contest at PEAC Main Gym. The Keelhauers wil enter that game with a 0-2 record, Montana Western will continue its season-opening road trip with a 1-0 mark.
