Jessup pulls away during second half of Keelhaulers’ home opener

VALLEJO, Calif. – Led by Angelo Nicandro who hit two of three shots from distance in the first half of Wednesday's non-conference matchup against Jessup, Cal Maritime was red hot from three by canning 6 of 11 attempts (.545 pct.), which allowed them to enter the locker room at halftime of its home opener leading by one.

By scoring the first 12 points of the second half, the visiting Warriors erased its deficit and held the lead for good, pulling away in the latter portion of the game to secure a 91-69 win over the Keelhaulers.

Following a busy last seven days, men's basketball will experience a seven-day hiatus since its next game will take place on Thursday, November 16 when Menlo visits PEAC Main Gym for a 7:30 series finale.

Cal Maritime opened its season at Menlo and will seek a split of the season series next week against the Oaks.

By hitting half of his 14 shots from the floor and 2 of 3 shots from three, Shawn Kelly led all Keelhaulers with 16 points. In his Keelhauler home debut, Illyaas Rafiq scored 11 points and Everett Perrot notched his first double-double of the season by finishing with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Prior to Wednesday's tipoff, Cal Maritime cemented another non-conference game against another Division II team — it faced Alaska Anchorage in its last two road matchups — when Cal Poly Humboldt agreed to host CSUM on Saturday, November 18, at 3:30 p.m. in Arcata.
