ARCATA, Calif. – Competing in its third game of the season against a Division II opponent, Cal Maritime led by three at halftime and saw Everett Perrot finish with 13 points and eight rebounds, both team highs, during Saturday's non-conference game from Lumberjack Arena in Arcata, California.
With Cal Poly Humboldt leading by six points with 3:33 remaining, CSUM remained within two possessions for the next minute until the Lumberjacks scored six straight to extend their lead to 13, with 35 seconds left to play, to secure an 80-70 result over the Keelhaulers.
Cal Maritime's brief two-game road swing will continue Wednesday against Southern Oregon in a 12 p.m. tilt in Ashland, Oregon.
Once CSUM returns home, eight days will pass before its next game, the inaugural Cal Pac Conference event of the season, when Westcliff visits Vallejo on November 30. Tipoff that night is set for 7:30 p.m.
Cal Maritime will head to Southern Oregon with a 0-5 overall record; Cal Poly Humboldt improved to 1-2 with Saturday's result.
