VALLEJO, Calif. — Before the Cal Maritime community enjoys a well-deserved extended break due to Thanksgiving, men's basketball will compete in three games, starting with Thursday's 7:30 p.m. home event vs. Menlo.

When the Keelhaulers arrive to PEAC Main Gym that night, they will seek a split of the season series since the Oaks took the season opener, for both teams, when they met in Atherton on October 26.

Beginning with that matchup against the Oaks, CSUM will compete twice within a 72-hour timespan since the team will head to Arcata to face Cal Poly Humboldt in Saturday's 3:30 p.m. road matinee. The Lumberjacks are the second Division II opponent on Cal Maritime's non-conference schedule; at the start of the month, the team faced Alaska Anchorage in a pair of road games in as many days.

Once men's basketball returns home on Saturday, it will have a couple days to rest and prep for its final non-conference opponent, Southern Oregon, because CSUM will head to Ashland, Oregon, for another midday matchup — this one will take place at 12 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving.

This block of basketball will provide the Keelhaulers with their final opportunities to strengthen chemistry and become more familiar with its defensive schemes and head coach Colin Johnson's offense because, once Cal Maritime returns to Vallejo after its game at SOU on November 22, will take place eight days later against its inaugural Cal Pac Conference opponent of the year.

Starting with that November 30 conference opener versus Westcliff, CSUM will play three in a row at home.

Before any time is spent thinking about that homestand, men's basketball will face an Oaks roster competing against its third-straight Cal Pac road opponent. On November 8, Menlo defeated Pacific Union by 13; three days later, it left UC Merced with a two-point double-OT victory.

Compared to the Keelhaulers, a team that will have five games under its belt before heading north this weekend, the 'Jacks only have two official games to its credit this season, both home losses to Simon Fraser and Western Washington.

Cal Maritime is the third of sixth straight home opponents for Cal Poly Humboldt; this is the inaugural head-to-head meeting.

Following a pair of losses at the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic, its season-opening tournament hosted by Jessup, Southern Oregon split its games played the following weekend at the Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic. After defeating Montana Western, the Raiders fell to the host school the next day.

That November 11 contest is the last game SOU played; it will not return to action until Cal Maritime visits Ashland 11 days later for the first time since November 6, 2016.
